Petrobras gets powerful new pipelay ship

HOUSTON, April 19, 2017 – TechnipFMC announced on Wednesday that, together with partner DOF Subsea, it had delivered the Skandi Buzios pipelay support vessel (PSLV) to Petrobras.

As its sister ship Skandi Acu, which started work offshore Brazil last year, the Skandi Buzios features “the most important flexible pipelay tension capacity in the world.” At almost 600 tonnes, this capacity enables the vessel to install large-diameter flexible pipes in deepwater plays, including Brazil’s ultra-deepwater pre-salt area.

Under a joint venture agreement, TechnipFMC took charge of the engineering and management of the ships, while DOF coordinated the marine operations.

“We are confident that these new state-of-the-art PLSVs, together with the expertise of our people will be key for Petrobras to successfully achieve its projects offshore Brazil,” Hallvard Hasselknippe, TechnipFMC’s president of subsea projects, said in a press release.

More than 50% of Petrobras’ hydrocarbons production, or about 1.5 million boepd in March, comes from the pre-salt deposits. The company’s total output last month averaged 2.74 million boepd, of which crude accounted for 2.12 million bopd.
