Reliance brings CBM assets on stream

MUMBAI, April 19, 2017 – Reliance Industries has started commercial coalbed methane production at its Sohagpur assets, a company spokesperson confirmed on Wednesday, with first sales expected in May.

Output commenced on March 24, with efforts currently underway to ramp up daily production levels to some 400,000 cubic metres by June. Peak output of between 2.5 mcm (88.3 mcf) and 3 mcm (106 mcf) is expected to be reached within the next 18 months, the spokesperson also said.

However, sources familiar with the development work taking place across the Sohagpur East and Sohagpur West blocks say it might take up to 3 years to reach plateau production.

According to Reliance Industries, more than 200 wells will be drilled on the assets in Madhya Pradesh State. The scope of phase one also includes two gas gathering stations and eight water gathering stations.

A 312-kilometre-long pipeline has been built by Reliance Gas Pipeline to transport the gas to Phulpur in Uttar Pradesh.
