Petronas ships first carbon-neutral LNG cargo

KUALA LUMPUR, August 18, 2021 – Petronas has successfully completed its first shipment of carbon-neutral LNG to Shikoku Electric Power Company in Japan, the Malaysian NOC announced on Wednesday.

The cargo left the Petronas LNG complex in Bintulu, Malaysia, and arrived Tuesday at Sakaide terminal on Shikoku Island, Japan.

The trip marks the beginning of Petronas’ plans to offset carbon emissions from the transport of LNG cargo through renewables-based carbon credits.

“We are delighted that Petronas has embarked on this journey, which marks a significant milestone as the LNG industry is transitioning towards a more sustainable future,” said Keisuke Nagai, president of Shikoku Electric.
