DOHA, November 8, 2021 – QatarEnergy has contracted Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering and Samsung Heavy Industries to build six LNG vessels, the state-run petroleum company announced on Sunday.

Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering will build four vessels and Samsung Heavy Industries will build two.

Agreements were signed in May 2020.

“These orders, and those that will follow in the near future, constitute a significant part of our program to expand Qatar’s LNG fleet to meet the requirements of our LNG expansion projects, our existing fleet replacement, as well as our LNG trading arm,” said Saad al-Kaabi, CEO of QatarEnergy.

The move is part of the North field expansion project that will boost Qatar’s LNG production capacity from 77 million tonnes per year to 126 million tonnes per year.
