Qatar to launch localisation programme

DOHA, January 8, 2019 – Qatar will launch a localisation initiative for the energy industry in February, NOC Qatar Petroleum (QP) announced on Tuesday.
The programme, known as Tawteen, will be launched February 18 and will involve “participation of official bodies and entities, energy sector companies, and a wide spectrum of service providers and supporting industries,” QP said in a statement.
The long-anticipated initiative will “reward suppliers and contractors who execute their contracts and agreements by maximizing local content,” the company added.
Commenting on the programme, Minister of State for Energy Affairs and QP President and CEO Saad Sherida Al Kaabi said that it “aims primarily at helping develop the private sector, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises.”
