QatarEnergy takes delivery of four LNG tankers
GEOJE, November 11, 2024 – QatarEnergy has taken delivery of four conventional-size LNG vessels built in the Samsung Heavy Industries Shipyard and the Hanwha Ocean Shipyard in South Korea, QatarEnergy announced on Thursday.
The four new vessels have been named Id’asah, Nuaijah, Umm Swayyah and Lebrethah and are part of QatarEnergy’s ongoing fleet expansion programme. Touted as the largest shipbuilding programme in the history of the LNG shipping industry, it will see the construction of a total of 128 vessels at shipyards in China and Korea.
The naming of the vessels took place at two separate ceremonies in Geoje, South Korea.
“This is a historic moment as these three LNG vessels prepare to set sail on their missions across the globe, providing a cleaner and more economical source of energy. They are equipped with state-of-the-art technologies to achieve optimal fuel efficiency and reduce emissions,” said Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, Qatar’s Minister of State for Energy Affairs and president and CEO of QatarEnergy.
Id’asah is the first vessel that Samsung Heavy industries delivers to QatarEnergy’s expansion programme. Nuaijah, Umm Swayyah, and Lebrethah are also Hanwa Ocean’s first contributions.
