Saudi Arabia and Kuwait to develop disputed field

RIYADH, May 18, 2022 – Saudi Arabia and Kuwait are moving ahead with development of the shared Durra gasfield despite Iran claiming rights to the field, Saudi energy minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman announced on Monday.

Iran argues development of the field is illegal under international law and has also made plans to commence drilling operations, including installation of a jacket.

Both Saudi Arabia and Kuwait invited Iran to negotiate terms of the eastern limits of the joint field in April 2022.

The Durra gasfield or Arash gasfield has production estimates of 28.3 mcm (1 bcf) per day and 84,000 bpd of condensate.
