RIYADH, April 11, 2025 – Saudi Aramco has discovered eight new oilfields and six natural gasfields and reservoirs across the Eastern Region and the Empty Quarter, the country’s energy minister said on Wednesday.
The discoveries announced by Saudi Minister of Energy, Abdulaziz bin Salman bin Abdulaziz include six Arabian oilfields: Jabu, Sayahid, Ayfan, Nuwayr, Damda and Qurqas. In Jabu-1, Arabian Extra Light flowed at 800 bpd, while Sayahid-2 produced 630 bopd. Ayfan-2 flowed at 2,840 bpd with 440,000 cubic feet of associated gas per day.
Arabian Light flowed at 520 bpd in Berri-907, indicating a new reservoir in the Berri field. Mazalij-64 confirmed a new Unayzah-A reservoir with 1,011 bpd of Arabian Super Light and 920,000 cubic feet per day of gas.
In the Empty Quarter, Nuwayr-1 produced Arabian Medium at 1,800 bpd with 550,000 cubic feet of gas. Damda-1 yielded 200 bopd of Arabian Medium from the Mishrif-C reservoir and 115 bopd of Arabian Extra Light from Mishrif-D. Qurqas-1 flowed at 210 bopd of Arabian Medium.
For natural gas, Ghizlan-1 yielded 32 mcf per day from the Unayzah B/C reservoir with 2,525 boe of condensates, while Araam-1 produced 24 mcf per day and 3,000 boe of condensates. The Mihwaz-193101 well in the Eastern Region tapped the Qusaiba unconventional reservoir at 3.5 mcf per day with 485 boe of condensates.
In the Marzouq-8 well in the Empty Quarter, three reservoirs were confirmed: Arab-C at 9.5 mcf per day, Arab-D at 10 mcf per day and Upper Jubaila at 1.5 mcf day.
