SBM Offshore partners on CCS technology for FPSOs

AMSTERDAM, September 15, 2023 – SBM Offshore has partnered with Japanese engineering giant Mitsubishi Heavy Industries to develop CCS technology for FPSOs, the Dutch offshore vessel provider announced on Friday.
The two will build on Mitsubishi Heavy Industries’ proprietary Advanced KM CDR Process technology that was developed with Japanese utility Kansai Electric Power Company.
The company’s technology promises to reduce carbon emissions from FPSO operations by up to 70%.
The agreement follows a successful engineering and design study carried out by the partners.

“Combining proven technologies of both companies will be an important step towards decarbonization of offshore greenhouse gas emissions from FPSOs. With this agreement, we will accelerate the offshore carbon capture business in order to achieve a carbon neutral society.”
