Services providers sign Mexico contracts

MEXICO CITY, May 1, 2017 – Two major oilfield services companies announced new contracts with Mexican NOC Pemex on Friday.

Following the signing of an agreement by Pemex to licence a seismic survey over shallow-water and deepwater areas, Schlumberger will work with its subsidiary WesternGeco to process wide-azimuth, 3D-seismic data from the Salina del Istmo Basin.

According to a Schlumberger press release, the licence will include seismic in areas “close to prolific geological trends with well-established hydrocarbon systems including the Cantarell and Ku-Maloob-Zaap reservoirs.”

In a separate contract, Pemex awarded a USD 178-million, 30-month contract to Weatherford for integrated services related to drilling, surface logging systems, tubular running, drilling fluids, reservoir solutions and wireline.

Through subsidiaries Drilling Group and Bits & Drilling Tools, Weatherford has already worked with Pemex in two shallow-water locations in Q1 2017. At the Yaxche field, Drilling Group was able to implement a variety of technologies to boost production to 4,600 bopd.

Bits & Drilling Tools performed the world’s first 30-inch casing-while-drilling service at one of Pemex’s exploration wells. There, the company as able to reduce the average drilling time by 1.3 days.
