Sinopec joins Qatar’s North Field East expansion project

DOHA, April 12, 2023 – Chinese energy giant Sinopec has agreed to take a 5% stake in QatarEnergy’s North Field East expansion project, state-owned Qatar News Agency reported on Wednesday.

The North Field East expansion will add 32 million tonnes per year of LNG to the country’s export capacity with its four 8-million-tonnes-per-year trains.

Upstream elements of the project include eight platforms, 80 wells and gas pipelines.

Construction began in 2019 and production is expected to begin in 2025, with full production expected by 2027.

The development is expected to cost nearly USD 30 billion.

In June 2022, ConocoPhillips and Eni signed deals with QatarEnergy for stakes in the development.
