SNC-Lavalin grabs Berri contracts

MONTREAL, May 1, 2017 – SNC-Lavalin was handed a contract by Saudi Aramco for engineering and project management on the Berri increment programme, the Canadian firm announced last week.

The scope of the contract covers new facilities attached to the field to increase output.

These include the FEED of a 250,000 bopd gas-oil separation plant at the producing Abu Ali gas plant, which were expected to start in April 2017, and EPC work on facilities that will process 40 million bpd of hydrogen condensate at the Khursaniya gas plant, expected to finish in August 2018.

The Berri field, one of Saudi Aramco’s oldest offshore assets, is located near Jubail City, at water depths of around 27.4 metres. When discovered in 1964, the Berri oilfield had more than 15 billion barrels of reserves, making it one of the world’s largest offshore reserves.

In February 2017, Reuters reported that the company was planning to invest some USD 6 billion in the oil- and gasfield in order to increase oil production, possibly by further drilling of offshore islands, and expand a gas plant associated with the site to the tune of USD 1.7 billion.
