Petrotrin responds to oil spill

PORT OF SPAIN, April 28, 2017 – An investigative team has been deployed by Petrotrin in response to a Sunday oil spill. The event has resulted in hundreds of barrels of oil deposits in the Gulf of Paria.

An estimated 300 barrels of are thought to have entered the gulf following the rupture of a fuel oil tank at Petrotrin’s bond facility.

 

In addition to deploying an investigative team, Petrotrin has taken steps to implement precautionary measures to protect the country’s western and southern coasts during tidal shifts.

Petrotrin representatives have released a statement saying that “working in tandem with its clean-up and recovery efforts, the company has implemented its Oiled Wildlife Management Plan. Searches for birds and other wildlife impacted by the spill are continuing and those identified are being rescued and rehabilitated in established centres in Trinidad.”

Other agencies involved in the spill response included the Ministry of Energy & Energy Industries, the Environment Management Authority, Occupational Safety & Health Agency and the Office of Disaster Preparedness & Management.
