Paenal commissions new pier in Porto Amboim

PORTO AMBOIM, July 19, 2022 – Porto Amboim Estaleiros Navais (Paenal) has commissioned a new pier for commercial and mining ships in Porto Amboim, Angola, the yard operator announced on Thursday.

The new 490-metre quay sits in water depths of 10 metres. It is certified by the International Maritime Organization and International Ship and Port Facility Security.

Paenal was formed in 2007 with the intent of boosting local production of maritime assets. The first phase of the yard was commissioned in 2008, with the full development finished in Q3 2013.

 

The yard now employs 96 workers but has employed up to 1,500 workers.

The Paenal asset has a 270,000-square-metre service area, with 66,000 square metres remaining for future storage and logistics assets. The development has a 2,500-tonne crane, which is the largest in the Austral region.

NOC Sonangol owns a 40% share of the project along with partners SBM Offshore and Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering with 30% shares each.

The yard has produced FPSOs, vessels and offshore infrastructure related to the oil and gas industry for companies such as TotalEnergies, Eni, BP and Technip.
