
South Africa readies for refinery reopening

CAPE TOWN, February 2, 2023 – Astron Energy has reached the final stages in restarting production at its 100,000-bpd refinery in South Africa, the petroleum supplier announced on Thursday.
Startup of the asset is expected within February 2023.
Refined products from the facility are expected to supply the Western Cape and South African region.
The move is part of South Africa’s drive to up its refining capacity to balance the closure of several refineries in the country.
The facility was shut down in 2020 due to an explosion that killed two workers.
Astron Energy is a subsidiary of Swiss multinational commodity trader Glencore.
