Striking drivers cause delays in Brazil

SãO PAULO, May 22, 2018 – Brazil’s Port of Santos and many major roads have been blocked by truck drivers protesting diesel prices in the country, international media reported Monday.

 

According to port authorities, several terminals have been blocked, restricting the flow of goods in and out of Brazil. Major highways in 18 of the country’s states were also obstructed by drivers calling for relief from rising fuel prices.

Finance minister Eduardo Guardia told journalists yesterday that the government must act carefully in deciding how to limit fuel price hikes. One option is to cut fuel taxes, Minister of Mines and Energy Wellington Moreira Franco said last week.
