Transitgas Switzerland pipeline

Swiss-French gas line to fuel N. Europe

France

PARIS, October 14, 2015 – Energy giant Engie is planning a pipeline link between France and Switzerland to allow gas from Azerbaijan, Algeria and Libya to flow to northern Europe via Italy.

The French utility’s gas transport division, GRTgaz, said on Tuesday that it will expand its existing France-to-Switzerland link with a second line to transport gas in the reverse direction.

Gas is expected to flow towards France from Italy, which is building a network of pipelines to transport imports from North Africa as well as the Trans Adriatic Pipeline.

The Trans Adriatic Pipeline is expected to come on line in 2020, bringing gas from the Caspian Sea to Europe. It will connect with Turkey’s Trans-Anatolian Pipeline and cross northern Greece, Albania and the Adriatic Sea to reach Italy.
