The Basra refinery upgrade forms part of the Iraqi Government’s long term plan to meet increasing future demand for hydrocarbon products.

Technip wins PMC for Basra refinery upgrade

BAGHDAD, April 28, 2015 – French project management, engineering and construction company Technip, in partnership with Japanese engineering consultant Unico, has been awarded a project management consultancy (PMC) contract on a reimbursable basis, for the upgrading of the Basra refinery in Iraq.

Awarded by the state-owned South Refineries Company, the contract spans the engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, start-up and warranty management phase of the refinery upgrade project.

 

The upgrade aims at increasing the petrol production capacity at the refinery, through the installation of a new fluid catalytic cracking unit and associated components including visbreaker, hydrotreating and hydrogen plant units.

Technip had previously won a PMC contract for the Karbala refinery in the in South Karbala province in June 2013, to be performed by the company’s engineering centre in Milton Keynes, UK, with support from its PMC teams.
