Texan LNG export facility signs sale with China

BROWNSVILLE, April 7, 2022 – NextDecade Corporation has signed a 20-year purchase agreement with China’s ENN Natural Gas Co. for sale of LNG from the former’s Rio Grande LNG facility in Brownsville, Texas, the US LNG asset operator announced on Wednesday.

Under the contract, 1.5 million tonnes of LNG will be delivered to the Chinese company per year on a free-on-board basis from the export facility’s first two trains.

Rio Grande LNG’s first train is expected to come on line as early as 2026.

Upon completion, RioGrande LNG will have a capacity to export 27 million tonnes of LNG per year. The project will reduce its carbon emissions by 90% through carbon capture and storage. It is the largest privately funded infrastructure project in Texas.
