Total, QP hire FSOs for Al Shaheen

DOHA, December 26, 2016 – Total and Qatar Petroleum contracted two floating storage and offloading units for the Al Shaheen oilfield on Friday.

FSOs Africa and Asia will start operations at the site next year once the joint venture between the two companies takes over from current operator Maersk Oil in July. Earlier this year, QP put the license up for bid in an auction ultimately won by Total, forcing Maersk out in the process.

The five-year FSO contracts are projected to net some USD 360 million together.

The news came as Shell was forced to reduce output at its Pearl gas-to-liquids plant in Qatar for emergency repairs, international media reported.
