Total quits Oman deepwater block 41
Oman Total entered a production-sharing contract with the Omani government to explore the deepwater block in 2013 and began seabed coring in 2014. Located northwest of Muscat off the Omani coast, the 23,850-square-kilometre block reaches depths down to 3,000 metres.
Total’s decision comes a year after Hungary’s MOL and Norway’s DNO pulled out from block 34 and block 31, respectively.
Total remains active in other projects in Oman. In 2012, the company produced around 37,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day from block 6 and block 53. In addition to its crude oil, Total is also involved in LNG production through its stake in the 10.5-million-tonne-per-year Oman LNG/Qalhat LNG liquefaction complex.
