TotalEnergies halts activities in Myanmar

NAYPYIDAW, January 21, 2022 – TotalEnergies has decided to halt all operations in Myanmar due to human rights violations in the country, the French integrated energy company announced on Friday.
The company will continue the production of gas on the offshore Yadana field, which supplies Burmese and Thai populations.
TotalEnergies has begun the contractual process of withdrawing from production on the field and cutting its ties with Moattama Gas Transportation Company, which controls the pipeline connected to the field.
The latter decision will be effective at the end of the 6-month contractual period at the latest.
The French company is the latest of Western companies withdrawing their support of the Myanmar government following a coup in February 2021.
