TotalEnergies starts production from USA’s Ballymore deepwater field

HOUSTON, April 21, 2025 – TotalEnergies has commenced production from the Ballymore deepwater field in the US Gulf of Mexico, the company said on Monday.

The company holds a 40% stake in the project alongside Chevron as operator with 60%.

Located 120 kilometres off Louisiana’s coast, the Ballymore field ties back to Chevron’s Blind Faith floating production unit. It has a daily gross production capacity of 75,000 bopd and 50 mcf (1.4 mcm) of gas. The project, launched in May 2022, uses existing infrastructure and standardised equipment to minimise development costs and emissions.

“At plateau, Ballymore will represent close to 30,000 boepd net of cash-accretive production for TotalEnergies,” Nicolas Terraz, president, exploration and production at TotalEnergies, said.

“The start-up of Ballymore will increase TotalEnergies’ production capacity in US deepwater to more than 75,000 bopd and contribute to the Company’s targeted hydrocarbon production growth of over 3% in 2025,” Terraz said. “The United States is a major market for the deployment of our integrated energy model, which combines low breakeven and low emissions oil and gas projects with LNG and integrated power developments.”

TotalEnergies has invested nearly USD 11 billion in the US since 2022 to accelerate development in oil, LNG and low-carbon electricity. In 2024, the company exported more than 10 million tonnes of LNG and operated 10 GW of utility-scale solar, wind and battery storage projects either installed or under construction.
