TotalEnergies takes 50% stake in Dutch wind farm
Netherlands AMSTERDAM, July 24, 2024 – TotalEnergies has acquired a 50% stake in the 795-MW OranjeWind wind farm offshore the Netherlands from RWE, the French energy giant said on Wednesday.
TotalEnergies will dedicate its share of the renewable electricity production from the project to power 350 MW of electrolyser projects that supply green hydrogen to its European refineries.
The projects are expected to produce around 40,000 tonnes per year of green hydrogen.
The company targets a 40% reduction in net greenhouse gas emissions linked directly to its oil and gas operations (Scope 1 and 2) by 2030.
OranjeWind is located in the North Sea, about 53 kilometres off the Dutch coast.
RWE is a German power generation player also engaged in building storage systems and energy trading. It targets carbon neutrality by 2040.
As a central player in the European energy transition, RWE will invest EUR 55 billion worldwide in offshore and onshore wind, solar energy, batteries, flexible generation and hydrogen projects between 2024 and 2030.
