Trinidad PM to attend Caribbean energy summit

PORT OF SPAIN, January 20, 2015 – Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar will attend this month’s first-ever Caribbean Energy Security Summit in Washington, DC, hosted by US Vice-President Joe Biden and the State Department. Scheduled to take place on January 26, the event will gather industry executives and government officials. Co-hosts of the summit are the Atlantic Council and the Council of the Americas.

 

The government wants Trinidad and Tobago to take the lead regionally in responding to the impact of falling oil prices, Planning and Sustainable Development Minister Bhoe Tewarie said on January 19. Speaking at a news conference at the Eric Williams Financial Complex, he said the government is in talks with leaders of regional governments. “Trinidad and Tobago has always been proactive on these issues,” Tewarie stated.
