Uniper and ConocoPhillips sign agreement for piped gas
DüSSELDORF, September 20, 2024 – German energy company Uniper has signed a long-term deal to obtain up to 10 bcm (353.1 bcf) of natural gas over the next ten years from ConocoPhillips, Uniper announced on Thursday.
Under the terms of the agreement, ConocoPhillips will supply natural gas to Uniper in Germany and Northwest Europe via its existing piped gas and growing LNG infrastructure. Uniper will utilise the gas to supply communities, municipal utilities and industrial customers.
ConocoPhillips’s operated assets in Europe include the fields in the Greater Ekofisk Area offshore Norway and the Teesside Oil Terminal in the UK. In addition, the company has ownership stakes in partner operated assets in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea and the Norwegian Sea.
“This significant deal is not only a great success for Uniper but also of central importance to energy security. It aims to enable us to sustainably strengthen the supply of gas in Germany and Europe on a long-term basis. This partnership is also a testament to our trustful co-operation. We are looking forward to further strengthening it and thereby creating new opportunities,” said Carsten Poppinga, CCO of Uniper.
The agreement is an extension of an existing supply contract and financial terms were not disclosed.
