US player to send up to 5 million tpy of LNG to Bangladesh
PORT FOURCHON, January 27, 2025 – Louisiana’s Argent LNG has signed a deal with the government of Bangladesh for the supply of up to 5 million tonnes per year (tpy) of LNG, the company said on Friday.
The Bangladesh Investment Development Authority said US President Donald Trump’s “Drill, Baby, Drill” energy mandate, which envisions expanded E&P and energy exports, had provided the “foundation” for the deal.
State-owned Petrobangla will serve as offtaker.
Argent is developing a 25-million-tpy LNG facility in Port Fourchon, located around 160 kilometres south of New Orleans on Louisiana’s Gulf of Mexico coast.
The facility is expected to begin operations in 2030.
An initial phase with an investment of USD 10 billion will develop a facility with a capacity to produce 10 million tpy. Worley is providing EPC for the project.
The USA ranks as the world’s largest producer of LNG and its capacity is expected to rise sharply over the coming four years as major projects – among them Port Arthur LNG, Plaquemines LNG phase two and Golden Pass LNG, all located on the Gulf of Mexico – come on line.
