Wood Group bags Mad Dog 2 contracts
ABERDEEN, March 14, 2017 – Wood Group confirmed it had been awarded two contracts by Samsung Heavy Industries for engineering and services on the Mad Dog 2 project on Tuesday.
Work on the topsides unit would bring Wood Group USD 80 million, the firm said in a statement, while a subsea engineering and management project would be worth an additional USD 4.9 million. Confirmation of the deal came a day after the group agreed to buy Amec Foster Wheeler.
Mad Dog 2 is the second platform at the field to be designed by Wood Group. Last month, the firm signed a three-year contract with BP, which operates the field, for global conceptual engineering, pre-FEED and FEED services. In January, Samsung Heavy Industries was reportedly hired to construct a semi-submersible production unit for the Mad Dog 2 project worth some USD 1.26 billion.
“Wood Group’s strong relationships with BP and Samsung and proven performance in deepwater projects are the foundations of our partnership in continuing deepwater work in the Gulf of Mexico,” said Wood Group CEO Robin Watson in a statement.
BP holds a 60.5% stake in the Mad Dog partnership while BHP Billiton has 23.9% and Chevron owns the remaining 15.6%.
