Woodside approves Australian LNG upgrade

PERTH, November 22, 2021 – Woodside Petroleum has made its FID to approve the USD 12-billion Scarborough and Pluto Train 2 developments, the Australian LNG player announced on Monday.

The works include an expansion train, modifications on the first train and new gas facilities in Western Australia.

First LNG shipment from the upgraded facility is expected in 2026

Woodside Petroleum’s share of reserves at the offshore Scarborough development is 2.4 billion boe of 2P reserves.

“The Scarborough reservoir contains only around 0.1% carbon dioxide, and Scarborough gas processed through the efficient and expanded Pluto LNG facility supports the decarbonisation goals of our customers in Asia,” said Meg O’Neill, CEO of Woodside Petroleum.

Woodside Petroleum holds 90% shares of the Pluto LNG facility, with Kansai Electric and Tokyo Gas holding 5% shares each.
