Woodside in Myanmar gas find

Myanmar

PERTH, August 7, 2017 – Woodside Energy announced on Monday that it had struck gas offshore Myanmar, the company’s third find in the area since early 2016.

The Pyi Thit-1 exploration well in Block A-6, drilled to a depth of 4,570 metres, encountered gross gas deposits of about 65 metres, the company said in a press release.

“This result builds on our understanding of the potential resources in the Southern Rakhine Basin and will further inform our consideration of development options,” CEO Peter Coleman said.

Woodside holds a 40% interest in Block A-6 and Total has a 40% stake, with Myanmar-based MPRL E&P owning the rest.

The find follows a January 2016 discovery in the Yee Htun-1 exploration well in the same block and a February 2016 find in the Thalin-1A well in Block AD-7.
