YPF-Gazprom deal expected in Argentina

BUENOS AIRES, January 23, 2018 – Following a meeting between Argentinian President Mauricio Macri and Gazprom executives in Moscow, the Russian giant is expected to soon sign an agreement to work with state-owned YPF.

“We have a good project in the preparation stage, and we are confident that we will be able to sign it soon,” Alexander Medvedev, Gazprom’s vice-president, told reporters.

The deal covering a joint gas extraction project in the Estación Fernández Oro field, located in Argentina’s Neuquén Basin, could be signed at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum in May, Medvedev added.

In September 2015, Gazprom signed a framework agreement with YPF to explore the development of tight and shale hydrocarbons in the Vaca Muerta formation.
