Zama consortium eyes partnership with Pemex

MEXICO CITY, October 10, 2018 – The partners in the 2-billion-barrel Zama find are considering a tie-up with state-owned Pemex in 2019, international media reported Tuesday.

In mid-2017, Talos Energy, Sierra Oil & Gas and Premier Oil made the Zama discovery in Block 7. The deposit could extend into the NOC’s neighbouring Amoca-Yaxche-03 assignment.

“We want to see [Pemex’s] data so it can help all of us, and then we want to figure out how quickly we can form the partnership so we can move forward with our final investment decision,” Talos Energy CEO Tim Duncan told Reuters.

The parties reached a pre-unitisation deal in September that “sets a clear path for the signing of a unit agreement and unit operating agreement in the event a shared reservoir is confirmed,” an earlier Pemex statement said.

Unitisation negotiations are expected to be completed by the end of the year, as is a delimitation well at Amoca-Yaxche-03.
