ASTANA, December 1, 2014 – The Zharkum gasfield experimental-industrial operation was launched on Friday, November 28, coinciding with the Day of the First President of Kazakhstan.

The field, located 215 kilometres from the city of Taraz, holds reserves of 833 mcm (29.4 bcf) of dry gas and 190,580 barrels of condensate. KazTransGas representatives said the gas would be cheaper and superior to the gas imported from Uzbekistan. The total gas production in the gasfield will peak 380 mcm (13.4 bcf) in 2015.
