Pemex Ixachi plans approved

MEXICO CITY, March 20, 2018 – Pemex’s plans to drill a delineation well at the Ixachi discovery have been sanctioned by Mexico’s National Hydrocarbons Commission (CNH), international media reported Monday.

With the Ixachi-1DEL well, which could be spudded as early as this month, the NOC will “test the lateral and vertical continuity of the productive facies identified in Ixachi-1 […] and define with greater certainty the volumes and limits of the discovery,” according to a presentation made at the CNH’s 17th special session of 2018.

Pemex’s plan also includes an extended-reach production pressure test on Ixachi-1, and a possible second delineation well to be drilled in August, depending on the results seen at Ixachi-1DEL.

The Ixachi discovery, located in the state of Veracruz, was made last November. At an estimated 350 million boe of 3P reserves, the field is Pemex’s largest onshore find in the past 15 years. According to the CNH presentation, the field contains mainly gas and condensate.
