Cooper reports onshore well success in Australia
Australia CANBERRA, May 13, 2015 – Australian exploration and production companies Cooper Energy and Beach Energy have drilled a successful onshore appraisal well in block PPL 220 in southern Australia, Cooper announced on Wednesday.
Cooper said the Callawonga-11 well had reached a total depth of 1,733 metres and encountered a 4.3-metre oil column in the McKinlay member and Namur sandstone, the well’s primary targets.
The company said results from the well are now being processed and are expected to help identify locations for additional development wells.
Callawonga-11, the second in a three-well drilling campaign, was drilled by EDA Rig 930, which will now be relocated to block PRL 98 to drill the Sensation-1 well. Sensation-1, the final well in the campaign, has a planned depth of 1,923 metres.
Beach Energy is the operator at blocks PPL 220 and PRL 98, holding a 75-percent interest, with Cooper owning the remaining 25 percent.
