Nigeria commissions its largest jet fuel depot

LAGOS, October 18, 2024 – The Energy Year team in Nigeria had the pleasure to attend the commissioning ceremony of the Joint User Hydrant Installation (JUHI-2) facility on Thursday.

The facility is the single-largest airside jet fuel depot in Nigeria, located at Murtala Muhammed International Airport and built to meet the growing domestic demand coming from the aviation industry.

With a storage capacity of 15 million litres of Jet A1 fuel, JUHI-2 will serve as a critical supply hub, ensuring the reliable distribution of jet fuel to nearby airports. JUHI-2 is equipped with cutting-edge technology. It features the latest filtration systems for jet fuel, a high-capacity discharge system capable of handling four jet fuel trucks simultaneously, a modern laboratory for fuel quality assurance and a depot designed with a state-of-the art fire prevention system.

This facility is a key milestone for the Nigerian aviation sector. The investment was made by a consortium of energy operators, including Eterna, Masters Energy Oil and Gas, Techno Oil, Quest Oil, Rahamaniyya Oil & Gas, Ibafon Oil and First Deep Water Limited.

As noted by the distinguished speakers, JUHI-2 is open for business, and it is fuelling the future of Nigeria by positioning the country as a leader in Africa’s aviation ecosystem.
