Australia’s Sayona Mining to merge with USA’s Piedmont Lithium
BELMONT, November 22, 2024 – Sayona Mining will merge with the USA’s Piedmont Lithium, creating a USD 623-million entity, the Australian company announced earlier this week.
With the all-stock deal, Sayona will consolidate its Canadian operations and boost its activities in the North American EV sector.
The companies will merge to create a lithium-focused entity for which Sayona will be the parent. Each player’s shareholders will hold around 50% of the new entity.
The consolidation is in line with a recent trend stemming from a boom in lithium production that is outstripping global demand, driving prices down.
Sayona is a lithium producer with projects in Québec, Canada and Western Australia.
“This merger marks a transformative step for Sayona and Piedmont, creating a leading North American lithium producer with the scale and capabilities to meet the growing demand for lithium products,” Sayona CEO and managing director Lucas Dow said.
“We believe our combined resources and expertise will enable us to deliver significant value to our shareholders and stakeholders. We are excited about the opportunities this merger presents to accelerate our growth plans and enhance our strategic flexibility.”
