Oando wins tender for Block KON 13 in Angola
LUANDA, January 20, 2025 – Nigeria’s Oando Energy won a tender to become the operator of Block KON 13 in Angola, the Angolan concessionaire ANPG announced on Monday.
Oando Energy’s operatorship includes a 45% stake in the block. KON 13 is located in the Onshore Kwanza Basin. The basin comprises 25,000 square kilometres and has proven hydrocarbon reserves. Other companies within the block’s contractor group include Effimax (30%), Sonangol (15%) and Free (10%). A 10% non-operating stake is still available.
The announcement comes on the heels of Oando’s acquisition of Eni’s assets in Nigeria in a deal worth USD 783 million in August 2024. This acquisition expanded the company’s production capacity to more than 100,000 boepd.
The awarding aligns with Oando’s plans to expand globally, which is further evidenced by the company having been short-listed for the acquisition of Trinidad and Tobago’s USD 15-billion Petrofin Refinery in October.
