Across-the-board plant maintenance expertise
May 31, 2025Amir Mahmood, general manager of Flowtronix Arabia, talks to The Energy Year about winning projects on the strength of the company’s reputation for robust execution and developing new capabilities to serve customers in the power generation and petrochemicals energy sector. Flowtronix Arabia is an engineering contractor specialising in electrical, instrumentation, process control systems and cybersecurity.
What products and services does Flowtronix Arabia offer to the Saudi energy industry?
Our expertise covers all aspects of plant operations and maintenance, including upgrades, retrofits and turnkey solutions. We work closely with our partners to ensure the successful execution of projects in defined timeframes and technical specifications.
We have completed projects for Saudi Aramco, Sadara Chemical Company, SATORP, Saudi Global Ports and SABIC. We have delivered successful projects for SABIC’s 18 affiliates in Jubail and three in Yanbu.
We also carry out turnarounds in different process plants each year. For instance, we recently did a full turnaround of SABIC’s Petrokemya South olefins plant, where we installed more than 170 instruments, mechanical tie-ins and cabling, and provided integration and plant start-up support.
In 2025, we will upgrade the control systems for boilers and emergency shutdown systems, flare monitoring and control systems and turbo machinery control systems at another critical process plant.
What convinces customers to choose Flowtronix Arabia over competitors?
Our strength lies in design and engineering, and our ability to consistently deliver projects on time as per agreed technical specifications. The team’s expertise in project management and execution ensures that every task is approached with precision and efficiency.
Over the past five years, we have completed around 45 projects, all without issues, and clients continue to return to us because of our reliability and performance. We aim to grow and reach every potential customer in the Saudi energy industry.
What are your offerings for the power generation sector?
We are expanding our team for the Saudi Electricity Company and have some projects with them in the design phase. Our primary focus is power generation facilities, as they often have systems that require complex instrumentation and control systems. We have experience in power distribution networks, but we want to concentrate more on the power generation facilities.
Can you comment on your partnership with Larsen & Toubro?
We have a strategic partnership with L&T Technology Services that is based on trust and collaboration. L&T handles the engineering and design services for our projects, while Flowtronix Arabia takes on project management, construction and installations at the sites. Essentially, L&T is our first choice for engineering support in any of our projects, and in turn, we serve as their construction and execution partner.
At the moment, we have a project with Schneider Electric that we are executing in collaboration with L&T, and L&T has engaged us as contractors for a project with SABIC. The synergy between our teams is excellent, and we continue to work hand-in-hand to deliver high-quality results.
Would you be open to forming new partnerships?
Yes, we are open to exploring new partnerships, especially with companies that bring new technology or expertise. We are interested in new alliances that can complement our capabilities. As it happens, we are about to launch a new venture in 2025 with an Italian industrial construction company called Samic that specialises in boilers, heat exchangers and retrofitting mechanical services.
What can Flowtronix offer to international partners?
Flowtronix brings a deep understanding of the Saudi market, including the needs of customers, on-ground realities and the engineering and construction aspects of doing business in Saudi Arabia. We have experience navigating the region’s specific challenges, which is a significant asset for any international partner looking to enter the Saudi market.
Our local knowledge, successful references and these new capabilities position us as a valuable partner for international companies wishing to establish a presence or expand in Saudi Arabia.
