McDermott wins engineering deal for US mega-project Monkey Island LNG
CAMERON PARISH, September 8, 2025 – Monkey Island LNG has awarded McDermott a master services agreement for front-end engineering and planning of its LNG facility in Louisiana, the company said on Monday.
The project in Cameron Parish will initially include three LNG trains with a total capacity of 15.6 million tonnes per year (tpy), with expansion plans for two additional trains to reach 26 million tpy. Monkey Island LNG has selected the ConocoPhillips Optimized Cascade Process and McDermott’s compact modular design, which is expected to deliver up to 60% more LNG per acre than comparable developments.
“This project represents a USD 25-billion investment across two phases,” Monkey Island LNG CEO Greg Michaels said. “It is designed to maximise LNG production with fewer acres.”
Under the agreement, McDermott will provide engineering, execution planning and pricing for the future EPC phase. Engineering and permitting are set to begin in 2026, with first production expected in the early 2030s.
The project will be led from McDermott’s Houston office, with engineering support from its Gurugram team in India.
