Eni finds more than 1 tcf of gas off Libya

TRIPOLI, March 16, 2026 – Eni has announced two offshore gas discoveries in Libya with preliminary estimates of more than 1 tcf [28.3 bcm] of gas in place, supporting supply to the domestic market and exports to Italy, the company said on Monday.
The discoveries were made at the adjacent Bahr Essalam South 2 and Bahr Essalam South 3 structures, drilled by the B2-16/4 and C1-16/4 wells. Eni said the finds could be developed quickly through a tie-back to existing offshore facilities because they are close to the Bahr Essalam gasfield.
In Libya, Eni’s gas production is centred on the offshore Bahr Essalam field and the onshore Wafa field, with volumes transported to Italy through the GreenStream pipeline. The company is also advancing the Sabratha Compression, Bouri Gas Utilization and Bahr Essalam Structures A&E projects while expanding exploration activity in the country.
Eni has operated in Libya since 1959 and said it remained the country’s leading international operator in 2025, with equity production of about 162,000 boepd. The company added that three development projects are under execution, with two scheduled to start up in 2026.
