Bulgaria opens gas pipeline from Greece

SOFIA, October 3, 2022 – Commercial operation of a pipeline between Greece and Bulgaria has begun, the EU announced on Saturday.

 

The 182-kilometre asset has an initial transport capacity of 3 bcm (106 bcf) per year, with plans to raise its capacity to 5 bcm (177 bcf) and secure gas to Serbia, North Macedonia, Romania, Moldova and Ukraine.

The pipeline is linked to the Southern Gas Corridor pipeline that carries Azeri gas to Europe.

The project is owned by state-owned Bulgaria Energy Holding, Public Gas Corporation of Greece and Italian energy player Edison.
