CFE’s latest effort: Mexico Federal Electricity Commission awards contract

MEXICO CITY, January 8, 2015 – On Thursday, the Mexico Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) awarded a $767-million bid the contract for the construction of a 230-kilometre pipeline capable of transporting 40.5 mcm (1.35 bcf) of natural gas from the US to the northern, western and central regions of Mexico. The consortium comprises US companies Energy Transfer Partners, MasTec and Mexico’s Carso Energy.

The contract is in line with the CFE’s latest efforts to expand energy infrastructure in the country and help reduce electricity rates, which rank among the highest in Latin America and North America. The state power entity had budgeted $1.365 billion for the work.
