CNH clears Murphy, Petronas Mexico plans

MEXICO CITY, May 15, 2018 – Mexico’s National Hydrocarbons Commission (CNH) has approved Murphy and Petronas’ exploration plans for two blocks in the Salina Basin, international media reported on Monday.

CNH officials said US independent Murphy is likely to choose the Palenque prospect, the largest of the three available in Salina Basin Area 5. The company’s USD 90-million plan will involve drilling a well from June to August 2019 and the completion of 16 exploratory studies.

Malaysian NOC Petronas, Sierra Oil & Gas and Ophir Energy are partners in the block with Murphy, which operates it with a 30% stake.

Petronas’ own exploration plan for Salina Basin Area 4 entails only seismic work.
