Eni in massive Egypt gas find: reports

CAIRO, June 28, 2018 – Eni may have made a gas discovery three times the size of the giant Zohr field in the Shorouk concession offshore Egypt, local and international media have reported.

Shares in Israeli gas companies lost about 4% in Tel Aviv on Wednesday on fears that such a discovery could dwarf recent Israeli finds and hurt Israeli prospects to export gas, daily Haaretz reported.

The speculation was sparked by a Saturday report in the Egypt Independent, which cited unnamed sources in Egypt’s oil ministry as saying that the Noor field could hold recoverable reserves of over 2.55 tcm (90 tcf) of gas, or three times those estimated to be at Zohr.

The news came days after Mubadala Petroleum closed the acquisition of a 10% stake in the Shorouk concession, which contains both fields.
