Essar Oil to expand retail pumps

NEW DELHI, December 23, 2016 – Essar Oil plans on doubling its number of retail petrol stations, the chairman of the company announced on Thursday.

Under the unveiled plan, the current number of petrol stations will reach 5,600 in 12-18 months in order to capitalise on the growing demand for transportation fuel.

Essar Oil has the largest private-sector retail fuel network in India, with a total of 2,823 operational outlets. Sales from retail operations reached 9.53 million barrels of petrol in financial year 2015/16 (April-May), up 127% from the previous year.

The company is also the country’s second-largest private refinery. In early 2015, the company announced plans to upgrade its facility in Gujarat, close to Vadinar, which produces 147 million barrels per year. The project is expected to be finished by 2018 and boost margins by USD 1.5 per barrel.
