Explosion at Canada’s Irving Oil refinery

Canada

FREDERICTON, October 9, 2018 – A large explosion occurred at Irving Oil’s Saint John refinery in the Canadian province of New Brunswick, international media reported Monday.

Several refinery units had been shut down and were undergoing major turnaround work when the explosion occurred. Several workers suffered minor injuries, according to Kevin Scott, Irving Oil’s chief refining and supply officer.

Product futures were higher on reports of the incident, as the 320,000-bpd refinery accounts for about one-fifth of all petrol imported to the US east coast.
