ExxonMobil makes deepwater discovery off Angola

LUANDA, May 15, 2024 – ExxonMobil has made a discovery in the Angolan deepwater, the country’s energy regulator announced on Monday.

The National Oil, Gas and Biofuels Agency (ANPG) announced successful research drilling at the Likembe-01 well located in the Kizomba B development area in Block 15, which is operated by ExxonMobil with a 40% interest, working alongside Azule Energy, Equinor and Sonangol.

Drilling took place from February to April in water depths of 1,200 metres, reaching a final depth of 3,013 metres.

Further details on the nature of the discovery were not disclosed.

Likembe-01 is the first well drilled under the scope of the preliminary agreements of the block’s incremental production project, which is designed to incentivise the production of additional volumes from current active concessions.
