Halliburton signs deepwater tubing hanger deal with Shell
HOUSTON, October 27, 2025 – Halliburton has signed a framework agreement with Shell to provide umbilical-less tubing hanger installation and retrieval services using its Remote Operated Controls Systems technology in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico, the company said on Monday.
The agreement follows a successful three-well technology phase that demonstrated the system’s speed, precision and safety advantages in deepwater environments.
The company did not specify the area of the gulf where the deal would be active.
The umbilical-less system eliminates conventional hydraulic controls, reducing surface pressure risks and personnel exposure. It recently set a record by installing a tubing hanger at 8,458 feet (2,578 metres) in the Gulf of Mexico.
“ROCS redefines well-completion standards in deepwater environments,” Halliburton senior vice-president Josh Sears said.
Halliburton is one of the world’s largest oilfield services providers, delivering drilling, evaluation, completions and production services across more than 70 countries. Its technology portfolio includes digital solutions and low-carbon initiatives aimed at improving operational efficiency and sustainability.
In the USA, Halliburton supports major offshore and deepwater developments in the Gulf of Mexico through its advanced well construction and completion technologies.
