Iraq hires BP to enhance Kirkuk output

BAGHDAD, January 19, 2018 – BP has signed an agreement with the Iraqi government to more than double production at the Kirkuk oilfield, international media reported on Friday.

An MoU between the super-major and Iraq’s Ministry of Oil stipulates that output should rise to more than 700,000 bopd, The National reported, though no timeframe and no financial details for the agreement were immediately available.

The Iraqi government captured the field by force, alongside the eponymous nearby metropolis, from the Kurdistan Regional Government in October, following a Kurdish independence referendum weeks earlier.

Malaysia’s Petronas, one of the stakeholders in the field, is expected to exit by June, the report added.
